I can' believe info that I shared years ago at a music conference in Toronto still isn't being capitalized on fully. As artists struggle to get their music heard and posted by the popular music blogs and websites, there really is a simple solution to broadening your reach and letting people know about you and your art...start your own blog.
Now, I don't mean start your own blog where you post a few new songs week. I'm talking about start an aggregate music blog. You're right, the world really doesn't need more music blogs but if you can start your own spot with a unique twist and put eyes on your content, you can then start funneling some of your music and art into the stream (and the audience you've built).
Instead of spending months and months struggling to get your music in front of someone else's audience, create your own audience! Build your own email newsletter list and be able to reach out to people whenever needed. Now, it's still important to get on established, credible blogs and sites (for which you will need a reliable and effective publicist), but put a little effort in and piggyback off of whatever else is doing, build an audience, create a unique voice and then present yourself in the stream of the music world.
You may look at this advice and say "wow, I don't have time to start a music or entertainment blog just so I can get my music in front of people." Sure, this isn't the only way...but with a mentality like that, you may not be ready for this grind.
